The work "empty space" focuses on depicting empty space by greatly reducing the foreground elements. Vertical and horizontal lines are minimized as much as possible, sometimes to individual pixels. The minimalist black-and-white composition draws on the approach of Suiboku-ga, primarily using ink, mixed media, and unpainted Japanese paper. My work is strongly influenced by early Asian ink painting and the ideas of De Stijl. This piece started as an attempt to explore the possibility of merging Japanese and Western reductive aesthetics. - Work Statement for the "Leerraum" Exhibition

Inspired by the concept of "yohaku," or negative space, my "empty space" series delves into the emotional resonance of minimalist design. Each piece is composed of simple horizontal and vertical elements reduced to pixel-like forms, utilizing the inherent texture of pure white Washi paper to create visual poetry that speaks to the essence of quietude and the beauty of restraint. Each composition invites viewers to pause and breathe. The interaction between presence and absence draws them into a delicate conversation between form and space. This equilibrium of clarity and openness fosters a serene and contemplative experience, reflecting the profound emotional depth that simplicity can convey.

In addition, this series represents progression through density changes and growth patterns. Density changes suggest time and change, from sparse to denser elements and vice versa.
